Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management

Funded by the ACT Department of Education, Family and Youth Services

Where will the course be held?
The course is being held at our training room in Fyshwick, Canberra.  See www.safecity.act.edu.au/act.htm for details.
 
What are the dates and times?
The course will include 14 compulsory tutorials.  These are held every second Sunday from 16:00 to 20:00, starting on Sunday 31st October 2004.
 
How much does it cost?
The course is normally $2200.00.  The funded price is only $350.00!  There is an additional 50% concession for people who are eligible for a concession (see below).  Please note that all fees must be paid before we can issue your certificate.
 
How will I know if I am eligible to do this funded course?
You will need to:
  • be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia; and
  • live or work in the ACT; and
  • be able to communicate well in both spoken and written English (please contact us if you feel you need assistance in this area); and
  • agree to attend all of the face-to-face classroom sessions

Am I eligible for a concession?
The 50% Concession Fee applies to people who:
  • are on Newstart or Youth Allowance; or
  • are on AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY benefits; or
  • receive a Department of Veterans' Affairs allowance; or
  • are on a Pension; or
  • can otherwise prove that they are currently unemployed and are in need of financial assistance

Please note that proof is required for all applicants for a concession.

 
Is there anything else I need to know about doing this training?
This course requires you to attend classes and spend a certain amount of time and effort in completing your projects and assignments.  The course takes an average of 800 hours to complete.  You will have approximately 9 months to complete the program.

Please consider this demand on your time and resources before applying for a funded position.

How will this course help me?
This course offers you a Nationally Recognised PRS40103 Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management. 

This is the minimum qualification needed to satisfy one of the requirements for a NSW Class 2A Security Consultant Licence.  It also satisfies the requirements for the ACT Class Employee C Consultant Licence.  To apply for NSW licenses, you must provide proof of citizenship or permanent residency.  If you are interested in completing this course to obtain your NSW Class 2A Licence, please contact us to discuss these requirements.

 
What if I am unemployed?
Do not worry if you do not have a current workplace.  The course is structured so you can obtain the skills in a safe and supportive learning environment whether you have a workplace or not.

You may be eligible for a concession if you are unemployed and are either on an approved benefit, pension, or in financial hardship.  See the question on concession fees.

 
Are there any pre-course requirements for this course?
You will need a background in security, policing or the military.  This program requires you to have certain knowledge and skills in security systems and procedures.  There are other courses available which will cover the operational side of security.  
 
Can anyone do this course?
Yes -- providing you are eligible for a funded position, and satisfy the pre-course criteria.  You must also apply for enrolment.  We are offering the funded positions on a "first in, first served" basis, and there are limited places.  Our advice is to get in early!
 
Can I do the Diploma of Security and Risk Management?
Yes. 

Safecity is offering successful participants of this course the opportunity to improve their skills further by completing a higher level qualification (either the Diploma of Security (Risk Management).

 
How do I enrol?
  1. Download and fill in an application form  (You will need WinZip or other similar program, and Adobe Acrobat Reader™ to view these files.
  2. Photocopy any proof of a benefit or pension for concession rates
  3. Attach the fee
  4. Either:
    1. Post to Safecity Training Academy,  Post Office Box 177   OBERON   NSW   2787; or
    2. Fax to Safecity on 02 6335 5229 and then post us the original forms.

Remember, we are offering funded positions on a "first in, first served" basis.
