Applying for Recognition of Prior Learning RPL (Recognition of Current Competency)
To keep the process as simple as possible we have outlined the process in five easy steps. Simply follow these steps and use the free resources provided and you will be able to self-assess whether you qualify for Recognition of Prior Learning or Recognition of Current Competency for the qualification you want to achieve.
This easy to follow guide will help you to understand the process of RPL/RCC. If you have not had any previous experience in the delivery of training or assessment, this form does not apply to you.
Understanding the principle of RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) and RCC (Recognition of Current Competency)
Have you been conducting training courses in the workplace? Have you completed a train the trainer program or other adult vocational training courses conducted by industry, workplace or other bona fide educational organisations?
If you have answered yes to either of these questions, you are entitled to apply for recognition of current competency.
The RPL/RCC process allows you to receive recognition for the competencies you gained from life, work, formal and informal education and training.
If your previous qualifications and competencies match the requirements of the nationally recognised course that interest you, we will be able to award a certificate for that course--no further training required.
In some cases, you may be awarded recognition for only part of the course and will be invited to enrol in an open-learning distance education program which meets your learning requirements.
At Safecity, we believe that you should be given the opportunity to self-assess your qualifications in a private setting. Our role is to make sure you have all the information and tools you require to perform a realistic self-assessment and to help you correct some of the gaps that you may find.
Let's go!
Before you embark in this assignment, we would like to explain the principle of Recognition of Prior Learning RPL also known as Recognition of Current Competency RCC and also clarify some of the new terminology which could otherwise confuse you.
All the Workplace Trainer courses offered under the Australian Qualification Framework are competency based learning. Each course contains several units. Each unit deals with a specific competency.
For example, (BSZ401A) Plan assessment is a unit of the Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training . This unit of competency deals specifically with the planning of assessments.
Please do not be put off by the term 'competency'. It is the universally accepted term in vocational training and we are stuck with it. It is important you realise that not having achieved a 'competency' in a module does not make you 'incompetent'. This offensive word has no place in vocational training.
In order to prevent the abuse of RPL/RCC, all Registered Training Organisations are audited by State accreditation and registration bodies appointed by the state Governments. These bodies include VETAB (NSW), ARC (ACT), VETEC (QLD), and TAS (WA). During these audits we are asked to provide documentary evidence supporting the certificates we issued.
Please understand we are unable to award you recognition unless you provide us documentary evidence to support your claim for the credit and undertake the open-learning, mail-based or telephone assessment activities.
Please work on your RPL submissions with the same spirit of fairness with which is offered to you. Ask yourself 'could I do with a refresher and update my knowledge in this competency?'
Safecity's open-learning distance education is fun and are conducted in a friendly and supportive environment. You will make new friends and learn new skills.
Decide what qualification you want.
Under the new training package there are several qualifications available. Details for these qualifications a stored in the filing cabinet market workplace training located in the office.
If you already know which qualification you require proceed to step 2.
Complete the open-learning pre-assessment activity
We made it very easy for you to try the open-learning

If you find that your current competencies do not match the qualifications required then
enrol in the open-learning distance education course of your choice.
If you feel you do not require any further training for the qualification
order the RPL Kit for the qualification you require and proceed to step 4
Prepare your submission.
As previously mentioned, we will only be able to provide you with credits when we receive your submission and supporting evidence.
To help you prepare a good submission we provide you with easy to follow planners, templates and other self-assessment tools. The template is included in the RPL/RCC Kit. To obtain this kit please send the
order form and appropriate fee.
Types of evidence we accept include letters from employers, certificates of competency or completion, statutory declarations in absence of any formal documentation, lists of completed courses (dates, times, certification/evidence attached), course contents, relevant course material, videos, audiovisuals or hand-outs, and relevant course objectives.
